Our top tips for using Citric Acid as a cleaning product around the house! Especially good in areas with hard water. Also lets talk about areas a surfaces where Citric Acid shouldn’t be used.
Best Uses for Citric Acid
Descaling Kettles & Coffee Makers: This is its "superpower." Boil a kettle with 1–2 tablespoons of citric acid and water. Let it sit for 15 minutes, and rinse well.
Toilet Deep Clean: Pour about half a cup into the bowl and leave it overnight.
Dishwasher & Washing Machine: Run an empty hot cycle with a cup of citric acid to clear out internal mineral buildup and soap scum.
Showerheads & Faucets: Soak a crusty showerhead in a warm citric acid solution for 30 minutes to clear the jets.
Windows & Mirrors: Mix 1 tablespoon in 500ml of water for a streak-free spray that cuts through water spots.
Never use Citric Acid on the following.
Natural Stone: Do not use on marble, granite, or limestone. It will "etch" the surface, leaving dull, white spots that can't be wiped away.
Electronic Screens: It can eat through the protective coatings on TVs, smartphones, and laptops.
Finished Wood: It can strip the wax or varnish off hardwood floors and furniture.
Some Metals: While great for stainless steel, it can tarnish copper and brass if left on too long.
